Punks began to inherit some violence as the media continued to portray them as nihilistic drug users. "The teen punk scene's reputation began to draw outsiders who only wanted trouble." In particular, the skinheads began showing up to concerts and causing chaos. Soon this reputation followed DC punks to other states- particularly, the California and New York punk scenes. Some critics labled the DC punks "muscleheads" and accussed them of ruining shows. This violent streak saddened many of the original punks, who had inherited this violence that caused so many problems throughout the movement. However, with time and effort this violent streak and reputation were eventually resolved.
