WGTB, the Georgetown Radio, began to play and promote punk rock music throughout the 1970s-80s. They also were known for their politically left views and anti-war broadcasting. This radio station inspired many young people to support politically left ideals and punk rock. The radio station was constantly in conflict with the University Administration and eventually was shut down. Eventually, a new version was revived in the late 1990s. Ironically, the original 90.1 FM is now CSPAN broadcasting.
